Maui's Ulalena is a stage production unparalleled in all of Hawaii. This premeire production features acrobats, dancers, musicians, and actors. It is the mythical story of Maui's creation, it is the beautiful, tragic poetry of a people. The play combines myth and history as well as light and color. It's funny and sad. Both kids and adults will enjoy this gorgeous production. The music is awesome. I love this show. You gotta love this show.

The theatre is in downtown Lahaina, near west maui and kaanapali resorts and hotels. Because its downtown you can make a night of it - there are tons of great restaurants all around the area. Kimo's, Longhi's, Hard Rock Cafe, just to name a few. To tell you the truth, I like the little thai restaurant just around the corner from the theatre, in the same parking lot as the show, two or three doors down from the KFC. It's just a little hole in the wall type place but it rocks and is really cheap. If youre smart you'll bring your own alcoholic drinks that you can buy from the store; but that's just my opinion. I'm a cheap bastard, but chances are, so are you.

How much do you like theatre is really what you have to ask yourself. As far as passive entertainment goes, its better than the movies alot of the time. An of course its better than television. But everything is better than television unless you have no brains and no appreciation for art and the lovely things in life like butterflies and rainbows. As far as theatre goes, this show is pretty darn good and everyone in the show is pretty talented. You'd think that Maui wouldnt have such a good show, being such a small island. But alot of the actors, dancers, and acrobats are here from other parts of the country, and even other parts of the world.
