Learning to surf is easier than you think, and once you've learned the basics from an experienced surfer you'll be on your way. Maui always has surf, practically all year long. It gets summer waves generated from Tahiti and the south Pacific in the summertime, and waves all winter long from the north Pacific. You can't go wrong. Learning to surf is really fun, and extra special in the warm waters of a tropical island. Maui is known for its world-class waves and surfers alike.

Let an experienced local teach you and you WILL get more waves. All of the lessons shown here take place in Lahaina, close to Kaanapali and West Maui resorts. All of the surf instructors are certified in CPR and First Aid. Your first lesson includes all surf equipment and gear. All you have to bring is a pair of shorts and some sunscreen!

To help you with your surf lesson on maui, you'll get a rash guard, a soft top board so you don't bean yourself, a leash, booties, and a great local instructor. The rash guard helps protect your skin while you paddle on your board, and booties protect your feet from the coral and reef. Your first lesson will concentrate on the basics - paddling, positioning to set up for the wave, standing up on the board, and of course, water safety and surf etiquette.
