Learning to surf is easier than you think,
and once you've learned the basics from an experienced surfer you'll be on
your way. Maui always has surf, practically all year long. It gets summer waves
generated from Tahiti and the south Pacific in the summertime, and waves all winter long from the
north Pacific. You can't go wrong. Learning to surf is really fun, and extra special in the warm
waters of a tropical island. Maui is known for its world-class waves and surfers alike. The gentle
waves at the Breakwall in Lahaina or Launiopoko beach park are a great place to learn.
Surf lessons are about two hours long. That's about as long as you'll be able to last
on your first day. Group lessons usually average about 4-6 students per certified
instructor. Private lessons give you more individualized instruction and are one-on-one.
You can also get group private lessons for your family or party.
To help you with your surf lesson on Maui, you'll get a rash guard, a soft top board so you
don't bean yourself, a leash, booties, and a great local instructor.
Your first lesson will concentrate on the basics - paddling, positioning to set up for the wave, standing
up on the board, and of course, water safety and surf etiquette. Lessons are about two hours long. If you
already have the basics down, Outrageous Adventures also has intermediate surf lessons to help you
improve your technique and skills.
